Anaerobic Filter Bed Baffled Reactor (AFBBR)

“Safe Disposal, Safe Environment”

The Anaerobic Filter Bed Baffled Reactor (AFBBR) is a wastewater treatment and recovery system recently developed by the Environmental Division of the DOST-ITDI.

AFBBR can be used in the treatment of wastewater containing biodegradable organic pollutants. It is intended to cater to the needs of the food processing industry and other industries which generate highly polluted wastewater.

The design of an AFBBR is a hybrid of an anaerobic filter (ANFIL) and an anaerobic baffled reactor (ABR). It consists of multiple compartments with standing and hanging baffles using polyurethane foam as packing materials. The packing materials act as a filter media and as attachment for the growth and development of anaerobic microorganisms.

Water recovered from the AFBBR, after post treatment refinement and storage, will eventually be used in the manufacture of concrete hollow blocks and paving blocks, thus, there will be zero discharge from the treatment system.

In tandem with Nature’s Way, AFBBR is aimed at reducing the pollution load of water resources – rivers, lakes, streams, etc. – and in improving the environmental condition of our country.
